New Customs Rules in the European Union Beginning March 2023

Note: New EU rules will NOT affect the Chamber directly, as the rules do NOT apply to documents.
However, all companies that ship any products to Europe will be impacted, so we might want to publicise this widely:
NEW CUSTOMS RULES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
The European Union (EU) is strengthening safety and security at customs through a large-scale information system called Import Control System 2 (ICS2).
What it means for exporters to Europe:
March 1, 2023
Beginning March 1, 2023, all goods being shipped into or transiting through the EU, Northern Ireland, Norway or Switzerland by airwill need to have:
– A minimum six-digit Harmonized System (HS) code for each item in the shipment
– Accurate goods description for each item in the shipment
– The receiver’s Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number (you will need to obtain this from your buyer)
These rules apply to all goods (except documents), regardless of value.
March 1, 2024
Beginning March 1, 2024 these requirements will extend to road, rail and maritime shipments.
Questions about these new rules should be directed to your international freight forwarder and/or your buyer.
